Folly

When we didn’t learn to decipher symbols, when things reminded themselves. A hut in the forest, a fortress in the belly of a whale. Now a hat, once, an elephant swallowed by a snake. This pavilion is a step back into childhood fantasies; when a stick served us as almost everything. When we understood nothing yet understood everything. Happiness and tears within reach. Emotions experienced without justification. We understood what is wrong; it would be hard to justify cruelties with charts. You are now entering the skeleton of an ancient creature that is no longer with us, and our children may not recognize its descendants. Whether it’s a whale or an elephant? It doesn’t matter.
